Programme Overview
The Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics at MAEER’s MIT Arts, Commerce and Science College,
Alandi (D) is conducted in accordance with the regulations, ordinances, and notifications issued
by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, and the UGC (Minimum Standards and
Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, as amended from time to time.
The programme aims to promote advanced research and original contributions in both pure and
applied areas of Mathematics, including Functional Analysis, Graph Theory, Integral
Transforms, Distribution Theory, Pseudo-Differential Operators, and related fields. Research is
carried out under the supervision of SPPU-approved research guides, within a structured research
framework that includes coursework, periodic research progress evaluation, and scholarly
dissemination.
All aspects of the Ph.D. programme-including admission, Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET),
coursework, research supervision, evaluation, and award of the degree—are governed entirely by
SPPU in accordance with UGC regulations. The Research Centre functions strictly as per
university guidelines and does not conduct any independent admission or entrance examination.
The minimum duration of the Ph.D. programme is three (3) years, and the maximum duration is
six (6) years from the date of admission. However, the total period shall not exceed eight (8)
years, as prescribed by UGC and SPPU regulations.
Eligibility
Eligibility for admission to the Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics shall be governed by the UGC
(Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations and the rules,
ordinances, and notifications issued by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, from
time to time.
A candidate seeking admission must satisfy any one of the following eligibility conditions:
A Master’s degree in Mathematics or a relevant allied discipline from a recognized
university with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. A relaxation of 5% marks (or
equivalent grade) shall be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy
Layer)/Differently-Abled/EWS categories, as per UGC norms.
An M.Phil. degree in Mathematics or a relevant discipline, in accordance with UGC
regulations, with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade, with applicable relaxation as
per UGC norms.
In addition:
The candidate must have qualified the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) conducted by Savitribai
Phule Pune University.
Exemption from PET shall be applicable to candidates who fulfill the exemption criteria
prescribed by UGC and SPPU regulations, such as those who have qualified UGC-NET
(including JRF), SET, GATE, or other national-level fellowship examinations recognized
by the University.
Admission Process
Admission to the Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics is carried out through a centralized
procedure conducted by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), in accordance with the UGC
Ph.D. Regulations.
The Research Centre strictly follows the university-prescribed admission procedure and does not
conduct any independent admission process.
